Power and language in a multicultural workplace

Today’s work markets are increasingly shaped by the multilingual reality. The present research offers an intercultural communication perspective on language diversity and power relations at modern work environment. Study investigates how young professionals and their foreign colleagues perceive diversity affecting in their communicative behaviours in culturally heterogeneous workplace. Skolas vadība motivēja Diplomdarba autoru mācību laikā izmantot modernās tehnoloģijas, bet darba autoram bija grūtības atrast jēgpilnu veidu kā tās iekļaut ikdienas mācību stundās. Tajā pat laikā, tika novērots, ka skolēniem ir grūtības pielietot augstākās domāšanas prasmes stundās. Lai risinātu augstāk minētās problēmas tika nolemts pielietot mācību modeli WebQuest augstāko domāšanas prasmju pilnveides atbalstam. This paper explores students' perceptions of the affordances of different telecollaboration tools used in an innovation project for English for Specific Purposes online learning carried out between the University of Valencia (Spain) and Wofford College (South Carolina, United States) during the school year 2015-2016. Different tools for synchronous and asynchronous communication were used. This paper deals with task design in the context of a telecollaboration project which was carried out in a Business English course among students from Spain and the United States. The goal was to provide students with opportunities to develop linguistic, intercultural and digital competences by interacting and collaborating online with native speakers of the target language.
